Art Walk Miami
Every second Saturday dozens of the independent galleries in the Wynwood Art District open their doors for Art Walk, each venue offering their own exhibitions, entertainment, refreshments and vibes. Participating galleries open their doors around 4pm and stay open until 9 p.m. or later, giving visitors a chance to wander to many of the galleries located in the blocks between NW 20th and NW 36th Streets west of N. Miami Avenue. It's hard to get to all of the venues unless you plan to spend majority of your night walking. Art walk is a great way to meet local artist and to be inspired if you're an artist yourself. Support the ARTS

Commissioned Work
I just wanted to share one of the many great shots I captured this weekend. Special thanks to my client and the model. I hope they are as enthused about the shots we captured as I am. I will leave you with this thought: Do not wait. The time will never be "just right" Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along. Stay tuned for more greatness and have a great week.

Ring Around The Moon
Last night around 11:30pm my friend sent me a text saying go outside and look at the ring around the moon. At first I thought it was just some form of prank, but my curiosity got the best of me and I went outside and took a look. When I got outside what I saw in the sky was a wonderful ring around the moon. This is considered a lunar halo or possibly a lunar corona. A lunar halo is caused by the refraction, reflection, and dispersion of light through ice particles suspended within thin, wispy, high altitude cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. As light passes through these hexagon-shaped ice crystals, it is bent at a 22 degree angle, creating a halo 22 degrees in radius (or 44 degrees in diameter). A double halo, sometimes with spokes, may be seen on rare occasions when light reflects off water or ice. The phenomenon of a lunar halo is similar to a rainbow produced by sunlight and rain falling between your eye and the sun.

Halloween Weekend
I hope everyone had a fun filled Halloween weekend. For about a little over two weeks I was without my camera and I must say I went through camera withdraw if there is such a thing. I was very excited to have it back in my possession and immediately I went out shooting. Below are two of my favorite pictures I took this weekend. The pictures are of dancehall artist Buju Banton taken at the James L. Knight Center. Special thanks to Scuffery. www.rogerbstillz.com
Miami Carnival 2009
Miami Carnival has been an Annual Event since 1984. Within two years of its inception, it had grown from a small neighborhood festival to an international event. This past weekend was no different. I enjoy carnival and all that it has to offer like the music, the food, the celebration, the photography it allows me to capture and the beautiful women. I did not enjoy how long it took to get the bands in the park. I met with my friends in the band around 11:30am and we did not get in the park until around 8-9pm. By then I had gotten one hell of a tan that I did not anticipate. I also dislike that they did not seperate the masqueraders from the crowd. Besides that it was a great event as usual and looking forward to checking out Trinidad's carnival very soon.

Making what you have Work
My day started off cleaning up then I decided to link my friend JusBus to go and scout a location for an upcoming shoot we are planning. When we got to the location to my disbelief the entire warehouse was demolish. This is a warehouse that I have shot in on numerous occasion and now its totally gone. To say the least that i was disappointed is an under statement but as we all know life is about adapting and moving on. I decide to check another location and its the journey to and from that location that presented my opportunities. I'm sure we have all heard the phrase "when one door closes another one opens" well that seems to be the case today. Everywhere we turned today we found the opportunity of creating great images. Being prepared in any scenario is the ultimate, but working with what you got and making what you got work is Talent. Often times we say that if we only had this we could do this but in reality half of the times we really dont need all the extras. Some of the most celebrate images we admire were created with point and shoot cameras. So instead of waiting to get that dream camera that you always wanted get out and start shooting and this applies to any craft. Start making what you have work. The images below were created today with the bare minimum meaning just the camera, my eye and the sun.
Thanks to JusBus for the inspiration today. If you're just getting into photography check out the work of Annie Leibovitz who also helped inspire me today. www.rogerbstillz.com
FACES of CHANGE COLLECTION
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that came out and supported me last night at my viewing of "FACES of CHANGE" collection. My FACES OF CHANGE collection are images from President Obama Inauguration. The Feedback I received last night were all positive and its the simple things like the appreciation of my work that pushes me to keep on delivering. Special thanks to the ABRO GALLERY for allowing me to share my historical journey and my images will be displayed there until May 1st 2009. Less than two years ago I decided to take my photography to the next level and just last year I set out to accomplish 4 goals and being in a gallery was one of them. I still have two more to accomplish and I have a feeling they are not far off. As I grow in this medium I hope you will embrace in this journey with me. The journey haven't always been easy; standing up for an entire day just to capture images, not being able to feel my toes for more than half of a day, some disappointment here and there but its the end results that always counts.
I know we hear the saying that anything is possible and it truly is, but for the impossible to turn possible we must ACT. www.rogerbstillz.com
