My Historic Day

My day started off at 2am. Thats when I woke up and couldn't fall back asleep.  I left the house at 3:30am, so I could get to the train station by 4am. When I arrived to the train station there were already, hundreds of folks in line for the train. After finally making it on the  train with record numbers in attendance, I finally made it to my stop. When I got off on my stop it was another moment for me.  The attendance in the train station, I'm sure was record breaking and the atmosphere was all about Barack Obama (pictures of that coming soon).  After exiting my stop,  I stepped out into what was the coldest day of my life. Yes, I'm talking 23degrees weather that felt more like 14degrees.  I made arrangements to meet my friends from college there and of course they were late, so i tried to stay warm in the nearest bus shelter, while I waited for them.  Not sure how much warmth was created while at the bus stop, but once again I encountered record setting numbers of folks heading towards the inauguration. To pass time a bit while waiting on my friends, I started talking to a cop that took cover from the cold.  He stated that he had been working for the past 12hrs and had another 12 more hours to go. What he said next to me, I thought was very funny. (LOL) He stated that he was looking for someone to arrest, so he could take them in to get out of the cold and into some heat. After waiting on my friends some more, I decided to leave them because they weren't able to catch their train and had to walk, so we decided to meet up once they were there. I headed towards the mall to walk right into a road block of hundreds of people. It was there while waiting, I encountered my coldest weather. It was below freezing and everything was cold. I did a good job preparing for the cold, but the only thing I forgot were my toes. For the majority of the day they were basically NUM. After waiting, at the road block for about an half an hour the crowd got too large so they let us in the mall. You were lucky not to get trampled. I was greeted at the mall by an even larger crowd than the one that took place at the concert and yes it was still COLD. I finally caught up with my friends and we tried everything to keep us warm from forming a circle amongst ourself to doing jumping jacks. (LOL) When we thought we didn't have much more time to wait.  We still had like 4 more hours to go and by then the mall was already filled up people who were sleeping on the ground, trying anything to stay warm. All this was achieved without any physical confrontation to my knowledge.  As the morning got older the excitement grew with the rising of the sun, that gave us some warmth that we really needed . After managing to cope with the COLD weather it was show time.  I was in awww from the introduction. At the moment I thought to myself that if and when the Barack movie goes into production, just the entrance of the ceremony will cost around $100 million or more which some movies don't even see that as their full budget. (LOL)  I know this election for some of us was the first time we voted and as you see your vote individually does count.  If this was your first time voting, what a wonderful way of introducing you to DEMOCRACY--FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE.  One of the best speeches I have heard in my life time was by Senator Barack Obama which was topped today by that very same man who is now our PRESIDENT. The morning started off cold, but the day warmed up for this special occasion. History was made today with the whole world watching and I'm glad,  I was their to witness it. I don't know what many of you felt while watching it on TV, but for me you had to be there to get the feel of it all. The people were amazing and I wouldn't have done it any different, except maybe wear another sock to keep my feet warm LOL.   The images I gathered were amazing (yes you are still waiting on them and I can't wait to attend to them as well).  However, due to my position in the crowd I tackled my photography from another angle of being more personal. I got the huge crowd shots, I got the flag shots, but I decided to make my images theme related. I haven't decided on a final name for the project yet, but hopefully between now and my plane ride back to Miami I will have it. This was a project, I thought of while at the concert and this was due to my position.  Sometimes you're not dealt the best hand, but you take that hand and play it to the best you know how and that's what I thought I did. Soon,  you will be the judge of this project.  I also encountered a couple proposing to each other which I managed to get a few shots of which I will also post.

After leaving the mall we were not allowed to make it to the parade due to the large crowds, so we tried to find some food and rested for about an hour before trying to head home.  Heading home was another adventure,  because most of the train stations were closed and if they werent closed they were too crowded, so we decided to walk to another train station. When we arrived at the other train station we experienced the same crowded situation, so we continued walking.  I don't know how far we walked, but it sure felt like that walk when P. Diddy sent  those kids to get some ice-cream LOL  After finally, making it to a train station and thinking I was home free. I took the train in the wrong direction LOL lucky me right LOL. On the train I met a guy who actually took a shot of the president in the parade and I worked on practicing my patience, so I didn't get upset.  I just rode it out and enjoyed the little sight seeing. I finally made it home around 5:30pm after leaving the house around 3:30am.  Once home I was greeted with some nice home cooking by my friend Roslyn's Mom.  I wanted to go to some sort of Ball, but I'm too tired I wouldn't hold up well,  so I'm staying in LOL.

That's pretty much how my day went. Thanks to all my friends who I had the privilege of sharing this special day with and Congrats to a very good friend of mine Adrian and his wife on their first born child.  Good Night

I'm experiencing Inauguration Day

I'm here writing at 2:15 am can you believe this. Well I'm sure by now we all know that today is a very BIG day in history.  Many of us never thought this day would come in our lifetime unless you're Stevie Wonder who said he saw it coming. It's a very special day for me and I'm glad I am able to go and participate in the experience.  It is now 24 degrees outside but feels like 11 degrees; this is also another example of how important this is because I really don't think I would be doing this for too many other occasions. The plan is to head out there around 4 am which is when the subway opens but my mental alarm have me up way before the time.  The concert had about 400,000 plus in attendance so I can only image what this will be like. My friends and I will be going to the Inauguration first, then trying to make it to the parade if at all possible. A very good friend of mine thinks to have mapped out the route so I'm waiting to see how this plays out :)  Over the last couple days of being in Washington DC I have seen America come together. Everywhere you go in the city everyone is on their best behavior. Gentlemen offering their seats on the train to women, extra tickets given out to my friends, everyone sharing the experience on how excited they are and its just great seeing folks from all across the country uniting for one cause-CHANGE.

As for the photography part of my trip, so far it has gone well. I do hope you guys will enjoy the photography I return with. I did attend the concert and due to the amount in attendance I wasn't able to get the shots I really imagined but I thought I made the best of what I had to work with. I thought of an idea while at the concert and immediately started working on it and hopefully today will add to my idea.  I'm sorry for not bringing my laptop which have delayed the picture postings :( but as soon as I can post them I will have them up.

With that said I'm gonna try to close my eyes and get some last minute rest ( I doubt it will happen) then I will be off to the Inauguration with my friends. Stay tuned for more to come and yes the images that everyone wants to see that was captured through the eyes of Roger B.

Off To Washington DC

Today I will embark on my journey to Washington DC where I will witness what I would consider a Historic Moment. My goal is to capture the moment and be able to share them with those who could not make it and for future generations.  It's been a long time since I took a trip where I'm this excited.  I still need to go and pack which has also been an adventure (trying to find the appropriate clothing). For all those traveling I pray you have a safe journey and I ask for the same blessings.  Congratulations on everyone who voted to make this all happen.  I will try and update you guys with images while Im there but cant promise it, if not I will have them posted when I return. Have a safe and wonderful weekend. www.rogerbstillz.com

The Parade

What is the parade route?

The parade, which takes place after the swearing-in ceremony, will run down Pennsylvania Ave. NW from the Capitol to the White House.

When does the parade start?

Officially it starts at 2 p.m., but often that is delayed.

What takes place during the parade?

After his luncheon, President Obama will travel to the White House, where he will watch the parade from a reviewing stand.

Who else will be in the parade?

Between 10,000 and 12,000 participants from college, high school, and military bands -- as well as drill teams, military honor guards and other groups -- are expected to march with Obama in the parade.

Do I need a ticket to view the parade?

Tickets are needed to sit in one of the 8,700 planned bleacher seats, but no ticket is required to watch from the sidewalk. Tickets will sold by the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

Unused bleacher seats are expected to be made available to the public a few minutes before the parade begins.

Walking to the Inauguration

The bad news: Witnessing this historic occasion in person will require a bit of a schlep. The good news: Officials say pedestrians will be allowed to go just about everywhere. So what about those who have to park their cars and venture over the Potomac and Anacostia rivers on foot for the first time? Put on your sturdy shoes, grab a wind-resistant jacket and climb down into this guide to walking over the 10 bridges into the District of Columbia.

INAUGURATION WEATHER FORECAST

It will be cold. Temperate between low 20's - 40's  Wind Chill for the weekend could be 22F

My weekend

This past weekend was a very active weekend for me. The one thing that stood out the most over the weekend was my trip to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden with my very good friend Gian.  If you are the nature type I strongly recommend a visit. It's a wonderful place to take pictures, go on a date, have a picnic and it's something the entire family can enjoy. I also watched a couple movies this weekend.

Righteous Kill - I didn't think it was all that. I expected a lot more especially with the cast attached to the movie (Robert De Niro/Al Pacino).

Traitor - Very good movie. Don Cheadle delivered once again

Slumdog Millionaire - This is one of the best movies I've seen. I strongly recommend you watch this movie if you get the chance. 5stars

I'm excited to be going to Washington DC this weekend for the Inauguration; however I'm not looking forward to the cold weather. This is a message I just received from someone in the Washington area "They closed like all the streets in DC for the weekend so good luck getting around to do anything while your here. I just thought I would give you a heads up" Thanks for the heads up. My previous post listed events of things taking place. If you know of anything or hear of any updates feel free to post them here so we can spread the word.

Have a wonderful week

About Roger B

I spent my early childhood days growing up on the island of Jamaica.  I was introduced to photography at a young age when my father purchased a camera for me.  At the age of eleven I moved to the United States leaving Jamaica behind but not forgotten.  I started middle school in the U.S. and it was in high school that I started finding out more about photography from the classes i took.  After high school, I continued my studies at the University of Central Florida, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.

After graduating from the University of Central Florida I went on to study film at Full Sail Real World Education, which gave me the opportunity to gain experience and awakened my insight to the idea that directing was not that much different than photography.  Immediately following this opportunity, I proceeded to an internship at MTV, which eventually led to another internship with Music Video Director, Little X.  After completing my internships, I returned to Florida to develop my passion for the arts.  I have worked with some of the best directors in the music video business and with top photographers, which has led to the development of my artistic view and style in photography.

I do not expect everyone to agree with my work and that's ok, to each their own. The stillz that I create do not always reflect my personal beliefs sometimes they are just for entertainment and for raising the bar of what I have never done before.

Happy New Year

I would like to extend cordial greetings and best wishes to everyone for 2009. I want to express sincere gratitude to those that have helped in the support of my vision and in capturing such great Stillz.

To all my fans THANK YOU. Finally, may the year 2009 bring you joy, love, peace and everything you are looking forward to.

I look forward to Barak Obama becoming President of the United States of America.

Happy Holidays

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holiday. I spent my holiday with friends and family.  I also gain two new friends Felicia and Kathy and look forward to working with them. If you're in the Dade City area of Florida stop by and say hello. (http://www.dadecityswildthings.com) I enjoyed my visit to their private zoo and I'm sure you will enjoy as well. I have attached a few pics just to give you a taste of the experience
